Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very poor family with 12 kids later on, realized early that she could escape the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. Songs were written by her before she knew how to write or read. The guitar that she first received was presented to her when she turned eighteen. The singer began her singing career at the Knoxville Tenn station by the age of 11. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. In high school she established herself in the local community, however her goals were bigger. The day after she graduated in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Her first charting hits with Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for the show he had syndicated to television. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She was hired in the year 1967. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974 when her solo singles such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton's hit song, I'll Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), hit the No. 1 spot after they separated. The first time it made it to No. 1 was 1974.
